Crumpled
Aiko hates her name, her gender, and the man who turned her into a victim of sexual assault. Most of all, she hates the world itself.
Ko, who goes to the same boxing gym as Aiko, has a dark past—he was sent to juvenile detention center for killing his father. He seems strong, someone who has faced his trauma. Watching him, Aiko starts to believe: If I continue to box, maybe I can have hope in living my life for just a little longer.

The female trainees in Dorm 7 at a Malaysia National Service camp are awoken just before midnight and summoned by their instructor to gather. A complaint has been made: a dirty sanitary pad was left in a toilet. The punishment is to clean up. The resulting experience strains the harmony amongst this multi-ethnic group but a begrudging camaraderie based on gender and shared hardship is also glimpsed.
LAI’s film brims with tension as the differences between trainees from different backgrounds are brought to the fore due to vivid acting by a strong cast, all while a critique of the irrationality of the situation is sharpened by the black-and-white shooting style which enhances the humiliation…

Our Beloved Journey
Meng and Lin are a couple who both work in film. They meet at an underpass on their way to a once-in-a-lifetime concert in Bangkok given by Utada. They took this very same route on their first date and so, on their way to the concert, they decide to roleplay their first date as memories of the years they spent together are evoked by sights and sounds. Midway through, those memories become tinged with sadness and a mysterious man appearing, bringing with him the feelings that have been disrupting their relationship.
This is an earnest meta love story set in an underpass where the journey of a cineliterate couple acts as a metaphor for filmmaking being like a toxic relationship.
