The Embassy of Canada, designed by Japanese Canadian architect Raymond Moriyama, is a dynamic hub for Canada in Tokyo. Conceived as a “meeting place of the people of Canada and Japan”, it has played an active role in shaping and advancing relations between Canada and Japan, serving as a catalyst for dialogue, collaboration, and exchange across diplomatic, economic, cultural, and societal spheres. Its architecture brings together the expansive qualities of Canada’s natural landscapes with the refined sensibilities of Japanese aesthetics, creating spaces that invite connection and encounter.
In this tour, participants will have a rare opportunity to enter rooms that are normally closed to the public and to learn more about the many roles this building has played and the distinctive qualities of its spaces.
Please note: From 12:30 p.m., a documentary exploring Raymond Moriyama’s life and architectural philosophy, ” Magical Imperfection: The Life and Architecture of Raymond Moriyama” (58 minutes, with Japanese subtitles), will be screened. Tour participants are welcome to watch the film at their own discretion.
