Shanghai, 2010, Xia You is a successful woman in the world of finance but her career and life are in the hands of a physically and emotionally violent fiancé. Searching for a momentary escape from her miserable reality, she searches for tickets to a Faye Wong concert and this is how Xia encounters Xu Zitai, a rough and ready ticket scalper with a terminal illness who comes to her aid with an act of kindness. Love takes root and the next time Xia sees him, she lets fate take over and becomes bound to Xu no matter the consequences.
HUO Xin’s handsomely-lensed film provides backdrops from across China that are rich in detail and add to the passionate romance Xia and Xu cling on to in their moving love story. It earned the Best Cinematography award at San Sebastian International Film Festival 2024 and both the Best Film and Best Debut Feature awards at the Rome Film Festival 2024.
