Hitomi is a high school girl who leads a peaceful life in a rural town in Ibaraki Prefecture. Her girlfriend Naho has dreams of being a K-Pop idol in Korea, and while Hitomi is supportive she doesn’t think it will become reality. When Naho passes an audition, their relationship is thrown off-kilter…
A wistful, light-hearted story of a couple’s innocent love fluctuating in the face of change, as told with charming performances, the drama of Naho’s transition into a different form of adulthood and her entry into the wider world culminates in a cute and unconventional goodbye to first love by the girl left behind.

In the Name of Love I Will Punish You
After years of saving, a single-mother has enough to send her teenage son to a military academy. However, with just a week to go, he adopts the persona of Sailor Moon, complete with costume, magical wand, and golden twin tails. His mother, baffled and desperate to save his future, is roped into hiring a shaman to fix him…
What transpires is a bizarre gay conversion therapy, complete with shameless quack conmen and spirited resistance from a non-binary hero(ine). Underlying this is a critique of narrow notions of masculinity and closed-mindedness. It is shot with a DIY aesthetic and played to full absurd effect with high camp performances while deadpan reactions from Amanda GONDOWIJOYO acts as a poignant emotional counterweight to the chaos.

Cupcakes, Lonely Cats
Liu Hui is a widower whose son lives in America. She insists on living alone in the house she shared with her late husband, a calligrapher, and is surrounded by fond memories. As she gradually joins community activities, she strikes up an acquaintance with the kind and shy building caretaker who faces a quandary over a stray cat. Small moments together reveal loneliness and companionship.

Spring 23
A young man named Maosen has just finished processing the paperwork for the funeral of his parents who died during the Covid pandemic. At the same time, the Spring Festival of 2023 is getting underway. Even though Covid-19 protection measures are being wound down, fireworks are still prohibited. Struck by a sudden desire to stick to tradition, Maosen sets off on a journey to purchase some fireworks.
A simple, almost wordless travelogue through Shaoyang County ensues as Maosen bikes along and scenes of everyday life are witnessed. These are rich in detail and atmosphere of people and fireworks and speak to the tension between adhering to bureaucratic measures that provide physical safety and culture that gives spiritual succour.
